The Creative Application of Llamas to the Problem of Global Warming

The vendace is an endangered species of fish that has been in Britain since the ice age, but now faces extinction because of the gradual increase of temperature of the water in its remaining habitat.

     Enter the llama.

Llamas are being used to transport thousands of hatchlings to a new, cooler lake at a higher elevation where hopefully a new habitat will be established. "Because the route to the lake is so rocky and uneven, it was impossible to use conventional transport like a 4x4 motorbike or landrover. So, the fish were given a ride during part of the two-hour trek by sure-footed llamas from a local charity. The journey was finished by fisheries officers on foot to ensure none of the smarts were spilt."
